Door Supplier in Thousand Oaks: 7 Things to Know Before You Buy a Door

Modern aluminum bifold doors open wide bringing natural light

Finding the right door supplier is one of those decisions that looks simple until you are standing in front of an opening with a tape measure in your hand. Bifold, sliding, French, single, iron, stock, custom: the options multiply fast, and the wrong choice usually doesn’t show itself until the door is already on your house.

I’m Reza Khoylou, and I have spent more than 15 years in the door business. Eris Home Products is based in Thousand Oaks, and this guide covers what I would want any homeowner, builder, or designer to know before choosing a door supplier and a door. I’ve organized it into seven parts, and I’ll point you to the right page on our site along the way.

1. What a Door Supplier Actually Does

A door supplier isn’t just a place that sells doors. A good one helps you match a product to your opening, your style, and the way your household actually moves through the space. The product is only half of it. The other half is knowing which questions to ask before you spend money.

That applies whether you are a homeowner planning a patio upgrade, or a builder or designer sourcing doors for a client. The questions are the same: what fits, what lasts, and what will it look like once it is in place. You can read more about who we are on our About Eris Home Products page.

2. Match the Door Type to How You Use the Space

Most people start by picking a style they like. I’d start one step earlier and ask how the door will be used day to day. Here is how I think about the four main families we supply.

Bifold and Patio Doors

If your goal is to open a wall and join a room to the patio, bifold doors are usually the answer. The panels fold and stack to the side, so a much larger share of the opening becomes usable than with a standard slider. Our Bifold and Patio Doors page covers the range, and you can see current stock sizes and swing options on the Shop Bifold Doors page.

Sliding Doors

Sliding doors make sense when floor space near the opening is tight. The panel glides along a track instead of swinging, so furniture can sit close to the door. They are also easy to operate, which matters on a door you use many times a day. Our aluminum Sliding Doors come in stock sizes with black and white finishes.

French and Single Doors

French doors give you a wide, symmetrical opening with two operable panels. A single door takes less width and less swing clearance, which suits narrower openings and secondary entries. Both are available in aluminum on our French and Single Doors page.

Iron Doors

Iron doors are the choice when the entry itself is meant to be the statement. You can browse the full Iron Doors collection, or go straight to Single Iron Doors for standard entries or Double Iron Doors for wider openings and more formal facades.

3. Look at What the Door Is Made Of

Two doors can look nearly identical in a photo and be built very differently. When you compare options from any door supplier, ask about construction, not only appearance.

Aluminum Bifold Systems

Our bifold systems use a 75 series aluminum profile with a thermal break, which is a reinforced polyamide bar placed between the inner and outer sections of the frame. It keeps the metal facing your room from being directly connected to the metal exposed to the weather. The glass is 5mm tempered, set in a slim frame so more of the opening is glass and less is frame.

Wrought Iron Doors

Our iron doors are built from 14-gauge steel with 5/8-inch solid bars. Gauge works backwards from what people expect: a lower number means thicker steel. Doors and frames are foam-injected for insulation and sealed with weather stripping, and the glass is dual-tempered and insulated. The finish is powder-coated for rust protection.

None of this is visible from the street, but it is what decides how a door behaves after five or ten years of daily use. It is also the part that is easiest to skip when you are comparing products on looks alone.

4. Know When Stock Works and When to Go Custom

Stock doors are made in common sizes and are ready to ship sooner. For many openings that is all you need. Our bifold stock sizes run from about 72 inches up to 216 inches wide, and our sliding doors cover standard patio openings.

Custom makes sense when the opening doesn’t match a standard size, when you want a specific panel layout, or when the design needs to match an architectural vision. We build to your opening through our Custom Bifold Doors and Custom Iron Doors pages. Two things to plan for: custom orders take longer than stock, and they generally cost more. If your door is part of a larger remodel, build that lead time into the schedule early.

5. Measure Before You Order

This is the step that causes the most avoidable problems. A few habits help:

  • Measure width in three places: top, middle, and bottom of the opening. Older openings are not always square.
  • Measure height on both sides: left and right can differ.
  • Note obstructions: a transom window, sidelights, a beam, or a nearby wall can limit which sizes work.
  • Take photos: a few pictures of the opening from inside and outside help us talk through fit much faster.

Rough measurements are enough to start a conversation. Exact dimensions are confirmed as part of the ordering process.

6. Questions to Ask Any Door Supplier

Before you commit, whether it is us or anyone else, put these questions on the table. A good door supplier will answer them plainly.

  • What sizes are in stock, and what is the lead time on custom?
  • What is included with the door: frame, hardware, glass?
  • What are the glass specifications?
  • Which direction does the door swing, and can I choose?
  • How is the order shipped, and what should I expect on delivery?
  • What coverage comes with the product?

If a supplier is vague on any of these, that tells you something. Clear answers before the sale usually mean fewer surprises after it.

7. Why a Local Door Supplier Matters in the Conejo Valley

We ship nationwide, but there is still a real advantage to working with a door supplier that knows your area. In and around Thousand Oaks, summers run hot and dry and winter mornings run cool, so the wall between your living space and your patio does real thermal work. That is why construction details like a thermal break are worth asking about here.

The architecture varies too. Newbury Park and Camarillo have a mix of established neighborhoods and newer builds, and styles shift from one street to the next. A scrollwork iron door that suits a Mediterranean-style entry may look out of place on a minimal modern facade, and the reverse is just as true. Talking through your specific home, with someone who knows the local housing mix, is part of getting the choice right.

Common Questions About Choosing a Door Supplier

What does a door supplier do?

A door supplier provides the doors themselves and helps you choose the right type, size, and configuration for your opening. A good one also explains construction and options so you can compare products fairly.

What door types do you supply?

We supply bifold and patio doors, custom bifold doors, French and single doors, sliding doors, and single, double, and custom iron doors.

Do you ship outside the Thousand Oaks area?

Yes. We offer nationwide shipping. Confirm current shipping terms for your specific order when you request a quote.

What information do I need to request a quote?

Your rough opening width and height, the door type you are considering, and a few photos of the space. That is enough to start, and exact measurements come later.

Is stock or custom better for my project?

If a stock size fits your opening, stock is usually faster. If your opening is non-standard or you want a specific layout or design, custom is the better route, with a longer timeline and generally a higher cost.
